Hector Barajas


Hector Barajas is a nationally recognized political strategist and communications and media relations expert. In 2012, the Hearst named Hector as one of 20 Latino Political Rising Stars in America.

Born in heavily Latino East Los Angeles and raised in the Echo Park, Hector grew up in an immigrant family where his parents taught him the value of hard work and the importance of education. Hector was the first in his family to attend college at California State University, Los Angeles where he earned a degree in Political Science.

After working for the California Republican Party as a field director, Hector became deputy communications director in 2006 and communications director in 2008. He also served as communications director for the California Victory 2008 campaign and the California Delegation to the 2008 National Republican Convention. He also served as Spanish language spokesman for the Republican National Committee.

After serving as a senior advisor to Meg Whitman’s campaign for California Governor in 2010, Hector traveled the country meeting with congressional, senatorial and legislative leaders on developing a Latino communications strategic plan for campaigns and ballot initiatives including Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Washington, New York, and California.

Most recently Hector was the Communications Director for the California State Senate Republican Caucus providing strategic counsel to the Minority Leader and Senate staff.

Hector also serves as an on-air political analyst for Univision, Telemundo, and CNN Español and has appeared on the BBC, Mega TV, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox News. His comments and editorials have been published in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times, Pasadena Star News, Teleguia, La Prensa, and other Spanish Language publications.
